This project involved moving 15,000 cubic yards of mine waste rock into a newly constructed on-site repository to improve nearby water quality and preserving two historic structures on site.

Waste Removal/Historic Structure Repair Tasks

  • Excavated 15,000 cubic yards of mine waste rock and placed into newly constructed on-site repository
  • Clean soil excavated from repository was used for cover
  • Talus was screened to provide riprap for a new run-on channel
  • Removed contaminated waste and debris from large historic mill building and sealed soil surfaces
  • Evaluated historic ore bin and carefully moved and then replaced to original location after removing mining wastes from the area and replacing the ore-bin footers
  • Historic debris was placed around the ore bin to provide a natural appearance.
  • Project work site is located at 11,000 feet above sea level at the end of 13 miles of narrow 4WD road
