This project involved demolishing and reconstructing a large, flood-damaged concrete stormwater culvert located at the intersection of Pro Rodeo Drive and Rockrimmon Blvd. in Colorado Springs. The project included demolition of the wing-walls and construction of a larger and stronger concrete wing wall with large boulders grouted in placed to dissipate flood-water energy. In addition to the Safety and Health Plan, RMC also prepared Erosion Control and Traffic Control Plans and obtained a Construction Stormwater Discharge permit from Colorado Dept. of Public Health and Environment.

Construction Tasks

  • RMC removed the damaged culvert wing walls and other flood debris from the work area
  • Surveyed grade elevations for cut and fill per the engineer’s plans
  • Excavated the subgrade and channel banks to plan elevations for placing grouted boulders and new wing wall footers
  • Constructed subgrade footers and wing walls
  • Managed complex water control during construction caused by continuous stormwater flows into work area
  • Mulched, fertilized, and revegetated disturbed area
